The Children of Atlach-Nacha
about 9 years ago – Sun, Oct 04, 2015 at 09:42:13 PM

We have hit our latest stretch goal! That means we're about to send "The Children of Atlach-Nacha" to all backers FREE.

Dr. Steffen Bonn is professor of entomology (specializing in arachnology). He taught insect biology at Columbia University in New York from 2003 until his mental collapse and disappearance in 2010. He now lives on the streets of New York, quite mad. His homeless colleagues call him the “Spider-Man.”

Before his rapid mental breakdown, Bonn was a respected member of the entomology community. He was considered an up-and-coming star due to his discovery of Acanthogonatus comis, a dramatic new spider species.

In 2007, several papers concerning the so-called “spider mountains” in Co-lombia caught Bonn’s attention. In these areas, largely unexplored, seven inde-pendent spider species had been identified in a 34-year period. Still, no one had gone very deep into the area. Bonn hoped to change that. He spent almost a year attempting to find a sponsor for an expedition before he was approached by Grant Industries, a materials science company interested in bio-materials de-rived from spider silk. A modest budget was set aside and Bonn assembled a team of four.

They found Acanthogonatus comis and it seemed Bonn’s fame within the en-tomological community was assured. That was when the voices started.

The Case Officer's Handbook Is Coming!

At this moment we are merely $1,507 away from funding a full-color hardback printing of the Case Officer's Handbook. That's a massively expanded core rulebook for Delta Green: The Role-Playing Game. As a backer you'll be able to get either the smaller Agent's Handbook or upgrade to the Case Officer's Handbook (see the project FAQ for details). Or if you plan to run Delta Green games, get both! Have the Agent's Handbook for your players and keep the secrets of the Case Officer's Handbook to yourself.

More amazing projects are coming after that.

Keep fighting.

ARCHINT: Archeological intelligence
about 9 years ago – Sat, Oct 03, 2015 at 06:48:16 PM

We’ve hit $110K, which means we’ll publish “ARCHINT,” a collection of new artifacts and spells created with the rules and guidelines from Delta Green: The Role-Playing Game

Those rules will be in the Case Officer’s Handbook, which is already in the works after hitting its PDF stretch goal. It will become a full-color hardback when we hit $120K.

But our immediate goal is now $115K, which unlocks “The Children of Atlach-Nacha.” This horrifying new threat for Delta Green will be available FREE to all backers. Let’s make it happen.

Words for the Handler

In Delta Green: The Role-Playing Game we call the Game Moderator the Handler. Like a handler in the intelligence world, you run a team of agents—the players—in dangerous, often ill-advised missions for reasons they may never clearly know.

Here's a glimpse at the Handler's section of the Case Officer's Handbook.

“That cult would never die till the stars came right again, and the secret priests would take great Cthulhu from His tomb to revive His subjects and resume His rule of earth. The time would be easy to know, for then mankind would have become as the Great Old Ones; free and wild and beyond good and evil, with laws and morals thrown aside and all men shouting and killing and revelling in joy.”

—H.P. Lovecraft, “The Call of Cthulhu”

"On Edward Teller’s blackboard at Los Alamos I once saw a list of weapons—ideas for weapons—with their abilities and properties displayed. For the last one on the list, the largest, the method of delivery was listed as 'Backyard.' Since that particular design would kill everyone on Earth, there was no use carting it elsewhere."

—Robert Serber

Welcome to Delta Green, a game of horror, wonder and conspiracy. By opening this book, you have chosen to become the Handler for a group of Agents of Delta Green. It’s the Handler’s job to keep the players, who take the role of Agents, engaged. You are the host, the creator, and the judge of all things that occur in this fictional world. You fill it with secrets. You take the role of every character your players meet and every threat they face. You alone understand the mysteries they probe, and only you see the absolute truth.

Being a Handler is difficult. It requires preparation, a good imagination and an unwavering vision of where the game is heading. In Delta Green, it also requires a Buddhist-like indifference to outcome. You might consider altering a die roll to save an agent or dropping a vital clue when the team is on the wrong path. Resist this urge. Delta Green is not about stacking the deck. It’s not about victory. It’s about something else.

Delta Green is about man’s insignificance in the universe and its urge to survive, to understand and overcome. Delta Green agents embody this concept. They struggle to defeat threats that outstrip the human mind, even as the world rushes towards destruction.

Congratulations, Handler. You are that apocalypse.

"Down in the Delta" unlocked for Delta Green backers
about 9 years ago – Fri, Oct 02, 2015 at 11:17:25 PM

Delta Green: The Role-Playing Game has hit its $105K stretch goal! That means we're giving a download of "Down in the Delta," a short story by Adam Scott Glancy, to every backer. Backers, watch your inboxes for the link. Everyone else, join the project now and read it for yourself.

NEXT UP: At $110K we fund "ARCHINT," an optional add-on. "ARCHINT" will be a new collection of new artifacts and spells created using the guidelines in the Case Officer's Handbook.

Keep fighting.

Be seeing you.
